We are failing current professionals in the ABA field. I am observing aspiring BCBAs asking to prepare for the certification exam with only mock exam questions. Current BCBAs are not analyzing data trends to make changes to programs. BCBA supervisors then have to closely monitor for progress and prompt BCBAs to make changes. BCBAs are stating issues with “imposter syndrome” and struggling to dive into their career.
I believe we are not successfully addressing foundational skills to develop and strengthen BCBAs. This is why I developed Willow Mentorship & Consulting, LLC. We are currently seeing the impact of how quickly the ABA field has grown. I want to be part of the solution. I believe that the future of ABA depends on developing quality professionals who understand our science and are supported to grow, thrive, and persist in it. BCBAs must understand our science, apply it effectively and ethically, and approach their work with genuine care and purpose. When we invest in professionals who are committed to scientific integrity, meaningful practice, and the people we serve, we strengthen the field as a whole.
